Colorum gives the city a fresh coat of paint with seating that reflects the cityscape in its design. In the design of the objects, aspects of the city’s history were used as a basis, so that they fit holistically into their surroundings. For example, powder-coated steel in striking red serves as a guide through the streets of the city center and can be associated with the city’s coat of arms. This shows a salt bearer between two percussion skids on a red background.
The city thrives on culture and history and offers numerous opportunities to bring people together. Colorum is also intended to offer opportunities for coming together and to invite people to rediscover the city together, to pause and take a seat. In this context, the seating surface of the objects is designed with a functional pattern of holes in the form of salt crystals. They point to the salt production of the Halleiner Salzwelten and represent an important aspect of the region.
To underline the simple design of the benches and chairs, classic materials are used. Concrete meets bent steel and is completed in a modern design language in a seating furniture that stands for stability and durability.
We would like to thank the company GMT-Wintersteller GmbH for the support and precise execution of our design, as well as the city of Hallein for the possibility of realizing the project and all other participants.
